# How to Connect Your VIZIO Smart TV to Wi-Fi or Ethernet

> Follow these step-by-step instructions to connect your VIZIO Smart TV to a wireless Wi-Fi network or a wired Ethernet connection for streaming.

A network connection is required to use all SmartCast features, stream content from apps like Netflix, Disney+, and Peacock, and complete account setup at [vizio.com/setup](https://www.vizio.com/setup). Your VIZIO Smart TV supports both wireless Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet connections. For Wi-Fi, you can connect to either a **2.4 GHz** band for broader coverage or a **5 GHz** band for faster speeds — ideal for 4K and HDR streaming.

## Connect via Wi-Fi

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Network Settings">
    Press the **Menu** button on your VIZIO remote. Navigate to **Network** > **Network Connection** > **Wireless**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Your Network">
    Your TV will scan for nearby Wi-Fi networks. When the list appears, select your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) from the available options.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter Password">
    Use the on-screen keyboard to enter your Wi-Fi password. Double-check each character carefully, then select **Connect**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm Connection">
    Your TV will test the connection automatically. A success screen will appear once your TV is online and ready to stream.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Connect via Ethernet (Wired)

<Steps>
  <Step title="Plug In the Ethernet Cable">
    Connect one end of an Ethernet cable into the **LAN port** on the back of your VIZIO TV and the other end into an available port on your router or modem.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Network Settings">
    Press the **Menu** button on your remote. Navigate to **Network** > **Network Connection** > **Wired Ethernet**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connection Detected Automatically">
    Your TV will automatically detect the wired connection. No password is required — once detected, your TV is online and ready to use.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Choosing 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz

<Info>
  **5 GHz** offers faster speeds and less interference, making it the better choice for 4K and HDR streaming — but it has a shorter range and may not reach TVs far from the router. **2.4 GHz** provides broader coverage and better wall penetration, but can be slower in areas with many competing wireless devices. If your router supports both bands, try 5 GHz first for the best streaming performance.

## Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Issues

<Accordion title="TV won't find my Wi-Fi network">
  * Confirm that your router is set to broadcast its SSID (network name) and is not hidden.
  * Try moving your VIZIO TV closer to the router to improve signal strength.
  * Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in. Re-scan for networks on your TV.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Why am I getting an incorrect password error?">
  * Verify your Wi-Fi password by connecting a phone or computer to the same network.
  * When using the on-screen keyboard, check for accidental capitalization — passwords are case-sensitive.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Why is my TV connected to Wi-Fi but has no internet?">
  * Restart your VIZIO TV by unplugging it from the wall for 10 seconds, then powering it back on.
  * Restart your router and modem by unplugging them for 30 seconds.
  * Check whether other devices in your home have internet access to determine if the issue is with your TV or your internet service.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Why is my stream slow or buffering?">
  * Switch from the 2.4 GHz band to the **5 GHz** band in your Wi-Fi settings for faster speeds.
  * Consider using a **wired Ethernet connection** for the most stable and consistent streaming performance.
  * Check your router placement — walls, floors, and appliances can reduce signal strength.

<Tip>
  For the best 4K streaming experience, use a wired Ethernet connection or connect to your 5 GHz Wi-Fi band.
